Redefining What it Means to ‘Get Older’
Norma Kamali is a creative powerhouse who’s defied trends, ‘expectations’ and arguably the most important: age barriers. Kamali’s “aging with power” philosophy is aimed at changing the way society views getting older: “She wants people to thrive…to feel included….to encourage a more positive, inclusive, joyful outlook on getting older” (Maria Shriver). Her healthy lifestyle includes eating clean, exercising regularly and plenty of sleep.

We connected with the idea and movement of changing the narrative revolving around ‘aging,’ especially as women, women in business, mothers, sisters friends, colleagues, recruiters and industry experts. Embracing aging as a positive life experience can only benefit us. Take a look at this #AgeAnthem by GirlsGone50; clearly women everywhere are tired of the stereotypes of what ‘aging should look like.’ It’s time to flip the script.
BLT’s “Truths”
Andrea Andrews - I relate most to Truth #6: Don’t Dress Your Age. I believe clothes have power and personality. Post-Covid, I’m going to go back into my closet and recreate ‘me’ in how I appear to the world. For now, it’s sweats, jeans, hoodies, T shirts, cashmere sweaters and an assortment of sneakers! On another note, I love Norma Kamali; her story of life and live is so inspiring to me. Since my 20s, I’ve owned a stunning chartreuse suit with huge shoulder pads created by her.
Susan O’ Neal - I'm torn between #5 and #8 (Stay Curious, Stay Inspired) - these have been my consistent truths! Curious people are lucky and Inspired people never get bored. (My own aging with power truth is to "keep it light", especially in the face of heavy stuff. Signed - Susie Freaking Sunshine)
Kathy McGoff - All great "truths". The one that resonates with me today is #7 Leave No Room For B.S. It's simply exhausting to wade through the swamp of lies and half truths to figure out what's really going on in any kind of human interaction.
Andrea Stern - It’s #1 for me. Age with Power. For me this means embracing my seniority. There is no substitute for the confidence and experience I have gained by having been around the block a few times. I am smarter, wiser and more grounded than I was yesterday and that is powerful. I splurged on a Norma Kamali swimsuit in my 20’s. I just had to have it.
